BROOKINGS – Since early September, nearly 95 Brookings High School students have dutifully worked hard to present “Cinderella,” the classic fairy tale of Cinderella meeting her prince and living happily ever after.
Pictured at a Tuesday dress rehearsal, stepsister Portia (Julia Schubert, center) and Stepmother (Rachel Smart, right) have a laugh at Cinderella (Bridget Knudtson, left).
The musical is based on the 1957 Rodgers and Hammerstein version of Cinderella that featured Julie Andrews without the singing mice and bibbidi-bobbidi-boos found in the Disney version. Director Gayle Klinker noted that this is an incredible work by the students since the play is filled with a large number of elaborate costumes, props and it required the actors to learn how to waltz.
When asked who should see the play, Klinker said, “Anybody from tiny to old. It’s a story of the perfect life in a castle, the Cinderella love story. … It’s a feel-good story.”
The show takes the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday at V.A. Bell Auditorium. Tickets are still available at the Brookings High School office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or can be purchased at the door the night of the performances.
Tickets cost $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. Activity passes are also accepted for the show.
