Kolleen Steen, age 54, of Brookings, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the Brookings Hospital.
A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. A private family burial will be in Concordia Cemetery, rural Sisseton. Online guestbook is at www.rustandweilandfuneral.com. Arrangements are entrusted with Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel of Madison.
Kolleen Melissa Steen was born on Aug. 27, 1969 in Wheaton, MN, to Kervin and Karen (Martinek) Steen. She was a bright light in everyone’s lives, and as soon as you walked into the room she would light up with the biggest smile and be so excited to see you. She loved watching people, but most of all enjoyed the outdoors. She loved sitting out on the patio of her home ALL DAY LONG!! She also loved holding onto objects, such as her doll, shoes, soft pillows, anything that had texture to it.
Kolleen currently resided at Advance in Brookings, SD. She traveled through the state throughout her lifetime spending time in Madison, Rapid City, Sturgis, Sioux Falls and Redfield. The family would like to thank all of her caretakers that she’s had over the years, her care at Advance was especially important because we knew she really enjoyed living there and made many friends.
Kolleen is survived by her mother, Karen Steen of Sisseton, SD; brother, Kevin (Cindy) Steen of Brookings, SD; sister, Koryn Steen (Doug Engels) of Watertown, SD, and brother, Kraig (Becky) Steen of Sisseton, SD; nieces and nephews, Tiana (Daniel) Hamilton, Kaitlyn (Ricky) Telkamp, Ashey (Jeremy) Wegner, Austin (Kali) Grajczyk, Austin Steiner, Braimen Steen, Riley Steen, and Berklee Steen; great-nephews, Sawyer Steen, Joshua Steen, Elliot Hamilton, Paxton Wegner and Jackson Wegner along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kolleen is preceded in death by her father, Kervin O. Steen; nephew, Weston O. Steen and her grandparents, Emil and Jeanette Martinek, Doris Lizotte, and Odell Steen.
