BROOKINGS – A Missouri man was arrested for aggravated assault after he pulled a knife and injured a Brookings man over the weekend, according to the Brookings Police.
Police were called shortly after midnight Saturday to a business in the 300 block of Third Street, Lt. Derrick Powers said.
Witnesses said the 45-year-old man from Kansas City, Mo., pulled a folding knife after a verbal altercation with a 26-year-old Brookings man escalated.
“The arrestee had been drinking,” Powers said.
“(He) poked the victim in the shoulder. The victim also received an injury to his hand from the knife,” Powers said, adding both injuries were minor and the victim refused medical treatment.
The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived, but witnesses directed police to a place a short distance away.
“He was found hiding behind some cars in a nearby alley,” Powers said.
The man was arrested for aggravated assault and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
