BROOKINGS – Mickelson Middle School was briefly locked down Tuesday over concern about a firearm on the premises, according to Brookings Police, but no firearm was found.
The incident was reported approximately 2:56 p.m. Tuesday, Lt. Marci Gebers said.
“Officers responded to Mickelson Middle School after a staff member received information of a firearm possibly being on school grounds,” Gebers said.
“Middle school went into shelter in place. Officers were able to quickly determine that there was no firearm on school grounds and there was not a threat to staff or students,” Gebers said.
