86 new COVID-19 cases, three new deaths reported in South Dakota Monday

BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 86 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths in South Dakota Monday.

None of the new cases are in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases remain at 4,184 total cases: 4,056 of those people have recovered (15 new), with 91 active cases (down by 15) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 13,516 people have tested negative in Brookings County (35 new), and 151 people (one new) in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

There are three COVID-19 occupied hospital beds at the Brookings Hospital, the SDDOH website reported Monday.

The county is in the “substantial” community spread category.

The SDDOH is now updating COVID-19 data on its website Monday through Friday only, with no reports on Saturday or Sunday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 122,745 (86 new – 69 confirmed plus 17 probable) as of midday Monday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 1,512 are classified as active (down by 112 from Friday). As of Monday, 119,263 people have recovered (194 new), 7,376 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point (six new), 105 people are currently hospitalized (down by seven) for transmission-based precautions, and 1,970 people have died (three new).

The SDDOH website reports 344,208 people (495 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

The new deaths, one woman and two men, are being reported in Dewey, Lake and Yankton counties. The age ranges of the deceased are one 40-49 years and two 70-79 years.

Increases in positive cases Monday include, but are not limited to, eight in Brown County, two in Codington, six in Lincoln, 18 in Minnehaha and 14 in Pennington.

The SDDOH website reported midday Monday that 596,860 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 329,491 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

Doses administered by Indian Health Services, Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, Department of Defense and Bureau of Prisons are not included in the state’s vaccine count.

In Brookings County, 22,882 vaccine doses have been administered to 13,432 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Monday, 38.3% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 47.5% of those 16 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOT reports 54.79% of the state population age 16 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 46.88% of the state population has completed its vaccination series.
