29 new COVID-19 cases, one new death reported in South Dakota Tuesday

BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 29 new COVID-19 cases and one new death in South Dakota Tuesday.

None of the new cases are in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases remain at 4,231 total cases: 4,192 of those people have recovered (two new), with two active cases (down by two) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,053 people have tested negative in Brookings County (26 new), and 146 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

The county is in the “moderate” community spread category.

There are no COVID-19 occupied hospital beds at the Brookings Hospital, the SDDOH website reported Tuesday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,302 (29 new – 29 confirmed) as of midday Tuesday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 229 are classified as active (down by 13 from Monday). As of Tuesday, 122,050 people have recovered (41 new), 7,154 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 43 people are currently hospitalized (up by three) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,023 people with COVID have died (one new).

The SDDOH website reports 358,547 people (613 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

The new death was a man, 80 years or older, from Pennington County.

The SDDOH website reported midday Tuesday that 662,743 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 355,968 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

In Brookings County, 26,581 vaccine doses have been administered to 14,523 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Tuesday, 41.4% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 48.7% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOH reports 55.3% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 50.2% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
