LAKE CAMPBELL – A Brookings woman was injured during an accident involving a four-wheeler being driven by a 7-year-old, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident was reported at 12:20 p.m. Saturday and occurred on West View Road at Lake Campbell, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
Jacquelyn Marie McCord, 60, of Brookings, was transported to the Brookings hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injures, Sebring said.
She was riding a 2004 Yamaha four-wheeler, Sebring said.
“It was found that a 7-year-old juvenile was operating a four-wheeler with McCord riding on it with her,” Sebring said.
“It was found that they were coming around a curve and had drove down into a dip in the road. As they came out of the dip, the 7-year-old accelerated, and they were travelling directly toward some mailboxes. McCord grabbed the handlebars and turned quickly to avoid the collision with the mailboxes and the four-wheeler rolled,” Sebring said.
The accident is under investigation with the sheriff’s office, he added. The South Dakota Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
Damage to the Yamaha was estimated at $145, Sebring said.
