The Optimist Club of Brookings recently awarded the Kelly McGeough Foundation $1,000.
The Kelly McGeough Foundation was started in 1983 in honor of 10-year-old Kelly McGeough, who fought a valiant fight against leukemia. His memory lives on with a foundation established to assist other families who children are undergoing catastrophic illness or situations.
The Brookings Optimist Club was chartered in 1972 and is dedicated to serving youth in the Brookings Community. Upcoming events include the Trout Extravaganza in May and the Kite Festival in June.
The Brookings Optimist Club meets Tuesdays at noon at the Pizza Ranch.
