BROOKINGS – Tori Kniesche tossed her second no-hitter in less than a week and South Dakota State belted four home runs during a doubleheader sweep of Creighton on Friday afternoon at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium, winning 9-2 and 11-0 in five innings.
SDSU, which has won 21 of its last 22 games, improved to 34-5.
The Jacks close the regular season hosting North Dakota State in noon doubleheaders Friday and Saturday. SDSU has already clinched the Summit League regular-season crown, posting a 17-1 record in conference play.
The Bluejays dropped to 14-14.
Game 1
• SDSU 9, Creighton 2
Kelsey Lenox drove in four runs and Grace Glanzer tossed a three-hitter.
Lenox and leadoff hitter Peyton Daugherty, who scored four times, both ended up 3-for-3.
Lenox logged an RBI single in the first.
The Bluejays scored both their runs in the top of the third.
Lenox countered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to put the Jackrabbits on top for good.
Emma Osmundson and Lenox came through with run-scoring doubles in the fifth, pushing the margin to 5-2.
Cylie Halvorson and Jocelyn Carrillo notched two-RBI homers in the sixth to put the Jackrabbits in control.
Glanzer surrendered two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Game 2
• SDSU 11, Creighton 0 (5 inn.)
Tori Kniesche (18-1) faced one batter over the minimum in the no-hitter, striking out 10 while issuing a walk.
Emma Osmundson, who finished 2-for-2, scored on a wild pitch in the first.
Allison Yoder stroked a two-run single to make it 3-0.
In the second, Cylie Halvorson blasted a three-run homer and Cheyanne Masterson tacked on a three-RBI double. Masterson ended the game 2-for-2 at the plate.
Pinch-hitter Hannah Loving came through with a two-run single in the fourth.
Notes: Kniesche struck out 11 and walked one in a no-hitter during SDSU’s 10-0, five-inning victory over South Dakota in the second game of a twinbill April 22. … The Jackrabbits have three no-hitters this season.
