Toronto busy with annual Hi Neighbor Days

TORONTO – Having kicked off a fun-filled weekend with a country cookout Thursday, Hi Neighbor Days continues in Toronto through Sunday.

Friday night action starts at 7 p.m. Miss and Mr. Toronto will be announced at the Toronto Fire Hall, and bingo will follow around 7:30 p.m. Ending Friday night will be the Totally ’80s Glow Run at 8:30 p.m. at the corner of Main and Dakota, and Toronto Daze karaoke starts at 9 p.m. at Rick’s Bar.

Beginning Saturday will be a pancake breakfast at the fire hall from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

The TLC Car Show will begin at 9 a.m. at the Toronto Café and Lounge. A co-ed softball tournament at the Dennis Aaberg Memorial Field will take place at 9 a.m.

At Arlo Olson Memorial Park will be inflatables for kids along with arts and crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. The kiddie parade/car show will begin at 1 p.m.; to enter, call 690-4960. At 2 p.m. is the watermelon feed, also at the park.

A poker run will begin at 6 p.m. along with a Trek and Wrek at the Toronto Café and Lounge (must be 21 or older to participate). Teams consist of five to eight people with a 10-team limit. Cost is $20 per team, and each member will receive a T-shirt and coozie. For more information, call 794-2541.

Ending the night will be a street dance at 9 p.m. featuring Hick Town Mafia.

Sunday activities begin with a community worship service at 10:30 a.m. at the park with offering going to the Deuel County Food Pantry. There is an ice cream social at Leganger Lutheran Church from noon to 1:30 p.m. Barbecues, pies and ice cream are on the menu.

“It’s a good time to get with old acquaintances,” said Ruth Lenning. The weekend is sponsored by the Toronto Community Club.
