BROOKINGS — A two-vehicle accident on Monday in Brookings resulted in minor injuries to two men, with one of them being taken to Brookings Health System.

Dylan Rittershaus, 27, of rural Brookings was taken to the hospital while Todd Budahl, 58, of Brookings was checked out on-scene by EMTs, according to a news release from the Brookings Police Department. The accident was reported at approximately 10:46 a.m. at the intersection of 22nd Avenue South and Orchard Drive.

BPD Detective Adam Smith wrote in the release that a 2016 Chevy Impala driven Rittershaus was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on 22nd Avenue. The Impala struck the rear passenger side of a 1990 Chevy S-10 pickup driven by Budahl as he was turning west onto Orchard Drive. Smith noted that both vehicles received significant disabling damage and were towed.

Charges are pending against Rittershaus, Smith added.
