Verna Clark, 90, of Brookings, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at her home.

Verna Jean Clark was born on April 27, 1934, in Brookings County, South Dakota to Harold I. and Helen R. (Harming) Telkamp. Verna grew up on a farm in Brookings as one of two children. She attended rural school (TRAIL) through 8th grade, graduating from Brookings High School in 1952. In 1962, Verna met the love of her life, Lester, when the two were set up on a blind date.
They attended a movie that evening, sharing many laughs together. The couple married on September 29, 1962. Verna and Lester where members of the Brookings congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Verna worked in Joliet, IL, Brookings, SD, and Des Moines, IA, throughout her life, but especially enjoyed working at the Econ Department of SDSU beginning in 1982.
In 1984 she was recognized as the Career Service Employee of the Month.
In her free time Verna enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading. She was also an avid bowler, receiving several trophies throughout her life.
Verna is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her two special friends Gerry and Lori Kalsbeck.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester L. Clark, her parents, and her brother, Edward Telkamp.
