CLEAR LAKE – Two women from Gary have been identified as those killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of Clear Lake.
A 1998 Lincoln Town Car was westbound on South Dakota Highway 22 when the vehicle slid into the eastbound lane where it was hit by an on-coming 2016 Peterbuilt Prostar.
Both the driver, June Kallhoff, 83, and the passenger, Celia Bouvette, 86, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. It is unknown at this time whether they were wearing seatbelts.
Rodney Buffington, 56, of Holland, Minnesota, was the driver of the semi. He was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Also responding to the scene was the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office.
