Christopher James Brown, 29, of Volga, was transported by the Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings emergency room and was later transported by ambulance to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.
The incident was reported at 12:50 a.m. Thursday and occurred in the 700 block of East First Street in Volga, Sebring said.
Brown is facing charges of simple assault domestic, possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated, and reckless discharge of a firearm, Sebring said. No one else is being charged in the incident, and there is no threat to the public related to the shooting, he added.
