RAPID CITY – A night after the Brookings Senior American Legion was swept by Rapid City Post 22 in Post 74’s first visit to the newly renovated Dave Ploof Field at Black Hills Surgical Hospital Ballpark, the Bandits got the better of the Hardhats’ parking lot neighbors, picking up two wins against the Post 320 Stars by scores of 5-1 and 8-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Pete Lien Field in Rapid City.

Five members of the South Dakota State softball program were named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team Wednesday.

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Chutes, Brookings’ junior legion team, swept Harrisburg in a doubleheader at home on Wednesday night. The Chutes took game one, 11-9, and then beat Harrisburg 12-2 in five innings in game two.

BROOKINGS – Trailing by five strokes after the first round of the Class AA state golf tournament being held at the Brookings Country Club, Harrisburg’s Reese Jansa showed why she was the defending champion.

RAPID CITY – The Deubrook Area Dolphins bettered their first round total by 12 strokes to finish third as a team in the Class B Girls’ State Golf Tournament held at Hart Ranch Golf Club in Rapid City.

RAPID CITY – The Brookings Post 74 legion baseball team was swept in a doubleheader against Rapid City Post 22 on Tuesday night. The Hardhats took game one, 5-3, and then beat the Bandits 10-4 in game two.

SIOUX FALLS – Six South Dakota State outdoor track and field athletes – four men and two women – were named to the 2022 Academic All-League team, league officials announced Tuesday.

SIOUX FALLS – Flandreau’s Keva Burshiem shot a three-over 74 on Tuesday to finish in second place in the Class A Girls State Golf Tournament at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.

RAPID CITY – After only playing one round due to weather, Gregory took home the Class B Boys State Golf title as the Gorilla’s shot 19-over as a team at the Rapid City Elks Golf Course.

DELL RAPIDS – Two nights after being blown out by Hartford-Humboldt, the Flandreau Cardinals bounced back with a 13-7 win over Dell Rapids PBR on Tuesday night in Dell Rapids.

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State head softball coach Krista Wood stepped down from the position on Monday to accept a job with Creighton.

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Bullets picked up their first win of the 2022 summer season on Monday night at Bob Shelden Field.

BROOKINGS – Brookings’ Ashton Austreim is tied for fourth place after the first day of the Class AA State Golf Tournament. The tournament is being held at the Brookings Country Club and the Bobcats as a team are in 12th place.

SIOUX FALLS – Flandreau’s Keva Bursheim is in fourth place in the Class A State Golf Tournament on Monday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course after shooting an 11-over 82. Sioux Valley’s Julia Steffensen sits in sixth with a 13-over 84.

RAPID CITY – Gregory leads the Class B Boys State Golf Tournament after half of the field was unable to finish today’s round due to weather. Officials have decided to make the tournament just a one round event and golfers who did not finish will tee off at 8 a.m. Mountain time today.

BROOKINGS – After being knocked out in extra innings in the semifinals of the 2021 Cubs Invitational, Brookings kept the hardware home in the 2022 edition of the tournament, winning on a walk-off Jackson Krogman two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the championship game to defeat the Renner Monarchs, 2-1.

GENEVA, Ohio – South Dakota State wrestler Tanner Sloan earned a spot on the U.S. World Team by winning the 97-kilogram title in the senior freestyle division and incoming Jackrabbit Bennett Berge claimed the 86-kilogram championship in the under-20 class during weekend competition at the UWW World Team Trials.

HARTFORD – After scoring a run in the top of the first inning the Flandreau Cardinals’ amateur baseball team allowed 16 straight runs for the home-standing Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks, including an 11-run third inning, losing 16-1 in five innings when the game was called after the 15-run mercy rule was attained.

HARRISBURG – The Brookings Chutes, Brookings’ junior legion team, went 0-3 in the Harrisburg Tournament over the weekend. The Chutes fell to Sioux Falls East, 9-3, on Friday and then lost 8-3 to Mitchell and 7-6 to Harrisburg Gold on Saturday.
