MITCHELL – The Monarchs continue to rule.

Renner defeated the Sioux Falls Brewers 2-0 in the Class A State Amateur Baseball Tournament championship game Sunday at Cadwell Park for its fifth consecutive title and 20th all-time.

The Monarchs were appearing in their 11th consecutive final – they’ve brought home the first-place hardware nine times during that stretch.

The Brewers – formerly the Brandon Valley Merchants – dropped to 2-5 in title games, with all seven of the appearances coming in the past eight years against the Monarchs. They won in 2010 and 2012.

Renner bounced back from an 8-7 semifinal loss to the Brewers on Friday, riding the arm of Dallas Schneiderman to the championship in the finale.

On Saturday, Renner stayed alive with a 17-13 win over the Vermillion Red Sox, who beat Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar 3-2 in an elimination game earlier in the day.
