Andrew “Andy” Van Dyke, 86, of Brookings, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, surrounded by family at the Neighborhoods at Brookview.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at Brookings First Assembly of God. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Andy was born Oct. 10, 1931, to Dries and Margaret Van Dyke. While in the Air Force in Topeka Kansas, he married Ona Ellison on Feb. 5, 1953. They farmed near Topeka until moving near White in 1958, then moved to Brookings in 1974.
They had two children, Angela and Randy.
Andy worked for a SDSU dairy farm for 26 years (1966-1992) as an ag research technician and owned and operated Van Dyke Construction. He enjoyed operating his backhoe and skid steer, doing cement work, and snow removal. Andy enjoyed going out to eat Saturday nights with friends to different places. You could find him several times a day at McDonalds for coffee breaks. He was the kind of guy who would help anyone out, and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Brookings.
