Arlington sweeps Region 2B Cross Country Meet

DELL RAPIDS – The Arlington boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the Region 2B Cross Country Meet on Wednesday at Rocky Ron Golf Course in Dell Rapids.

Girls

The Cardinals won the team event with 15 points. Colman-Egan finished in second with 24 points and Centerville came in third with 40. De Smet came in fourth (44) and Gayville-Volin rounded out the top-five (48).

C-E had the top-two finishers individually. Junior Reese Luze came in first with a time of 21 minutes and 55.08 seconds. Freshman Presley Luze came in second as she finished in 22:01.22.

Arlington had the next two finishers. Eighth grader Kaelyn Ulschmid came in third (22:01.25) and seventh grader Madalyn Madsen finished in fourth(22:18.07).

Centerville’s Lillie Eide came in fifth (22:27.36).

The Cardinals’ Halley Miller and Isabelle Steffensen finished in eighth (22:47.66) and 10th (22:55.96), respectively. Ellisyn Vincent was the final finisher for Arlington and she came in 13th (23:06.67).

Anya Hemmer and Elaina Rhode finished in 21st (23:09.34) and 25th (23:51.73), respectively for Colman-Egan. Abby Rhode rounded things out for the Hawks, coming in 34th (24:33.28).

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland came in seventh with 73 points. Briella Wettlaufer was the top finisher for the Raiders and she came in 11th (23:01.40). Josie Nold came in 15th (23:08.70). Taya Wettlaufer and Hannah Albrecht finished in 48th (27:51.38) and 52nd (30:21.40), respectively for ORR.

Boys

Arlington and Canistota each finished with 18 points, but the Cardinals won the tiebreaker. Irene-Wakonda came in third with 29 points. Dell Rapids St. Mary and McCrossan each finished with 39 points in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Canistota junior Josiah Schroeder came in first with a time of 18:00.69 and Irene-Wakonda’s Ethan Haich finished in second (18:40.25). Arlington junior Evan Fonseca came in third (34.50) and Howard seventh grader Conner Giedd finished in fourth (19:44.06). Canistota senior Connor Hutcheson rounded out the top-five with a time of 19:44.25.

Jake Burns was the next finisher for the Cardinals and he came in sixth (19:46.26). Riley Miller and Chase Henriksen finished in 14th (20:19.10) and 24th (21:39.76), respectively. Miles Antonen was the final runner for the Cardinals and came in 39th (25:21.56).

Lake Preston came in ninth with 81 points. The Divers had three runners and AJ Wienk was at the top, coming in 15th with a time of 20:22.15. Lane Jensen and Peyton Hope finished in 41st (26:21.20) and 43rd (27:21.83), respectively.

The Class B State Cross Country Meet is scheduled for Oct. 23 at Yankton Trail Park.
