South Dakota State linebacker Logan Backhaus and right tackle Garret Greenfield were named Tuesday to the 2021 Athlon Sports FCS Preseason All-America Team. Both players were included in the publication’s All-America squad following the 2020-21 spring season.
A senior from Spirit Lake, Iowa, Backhaus ranked second on the team this past spring with 72 total tackles, including a team-best 9.5 tackles for loss with a pair of sacks. Backhaus registered double figures in tackles three times, while adding an interception, forced fumble and pass breakup.
Greenfield, a sophomore from Rock Valley, Iowa, was selected to multiple All-America teams following a breakthrough spring season. He helped pave the way for an offensive unit that averaged 29.2 points and 403.1 yards of total offense per game.
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to kick off the 2021 season Sept. 3 at Colorado State.
