Bantam A takes second in Sioux Falls tourney; Squirt A moves to 6-0 in league play

BANTAM A

SIOUX FALLS – The Rangers placed second in the SFYHA Bantam Icebreaker Tournament over the weekend.

They went 2-0-1 in pool play and then lost in a shootout in the final.

Friday

 Brookings 4, Freemont Flyers 0

Egan Jensen made 14 saves to post the shutout between the pipes.

Riley Linstad scored twice, including a power-play goal to get things going.

Jacob Kahle and Cooper Deatherage added goals.

Kahle, Luke Honkomp, Jacob Law, Ren Jacobsen and Jay Harris were credited with assists.

Saturday

 Brookings 8, Des Moines Red 0

Jensen stopped six shots for another shutout.

Jacobsen lit the lamp twice and added an assist.

Kahle and Talon Hyde both logged a goal and a helper.

Harris, Cody Jacobson, Aidan Austreim and Jackson Heller contributed goals.

Honkomp and Deatherage tallied assists.

Sunday

 Brookings 3, Sioux Falls Blue 3, tie

Kahle scored two goals and Jacobsen added one.

Law dished out a pair of assists. Kahle, Jacobsen and Honkomp chipped in with one apiece.

Jensen recorded 17 saves.

Championship

 Omaha Red 3, Brookings 2, SO

The Nebraska squad prevailed in a shootout by a 3-1 margin after the teams finished regulation and overtime tied at 2-all.

Deatherage and Law found the back of the net in the first and second periods, respectively.

Jacobsen assisted on both goals and Honkomp added a helper.

Jensen stopped 25 shots.

BANTAM B

SIOUX FALLS – Brookings went 0-4 and finished sixth in the SFYHA Bantam Icebreaker Tournament over the weekend.

In pool play, the Rangers fell 7-0 to Sioux Falls Orange (2) on Friday and 9-1 to Sioux Falls Orange (1) and 11-1 to Brandon Valley on Saturday.

Boji beat Brookings 11-1 in the fifth-place matchup Sunday.

Waylon Carroll netted all three Ranger goals.

Andrew Sternhagen, Masen Holen and Jack Lee had assists.

Nathan Brecher totaled 125 saves in the tourney.

GIRLS 14U

MITCHELL – The Marlins (7-2-1) topped the Rangers (6-1-1) by a 3-2 margin Saturday in a matchup of the league’s top two teams.

Ava Kahle scored on Payton Triplett and Miyah Foerster assists in the first.

Taryn Richter made it 2-1 heading to the final period with a short-handed goal in the second period. Anna Rasmussen assisted.

Rorii Quam had 27 saves between the pipes.

PEEWEE A

BROOKINGS – Sioux Falls (2) beat the Rangers 9-1 on Sunday.

Mason Diers scored on an assist from Jamison Olson.

Matthew Bothe stopped 26 shots.

SQUIRT A

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Rangers improved to 6-0 in league play, beating the host Tornados 10-0 and Huron 8-2 on Saturday.

 Brookings 10, Sioux Center 0

Jack Lovseth led the way with two goals and a pair of assists.

Tegan Jensen and Weston Diers both scored twice.

Maxx Anderson and Atwood Ahmann added a goal and a helper apiece.

Un Hyeng Keay and Ethan Foerster netted goals. Carter Nielsen logged an assist.

The Tornados did not manage a shot on goal.

 Brookings 8, Huron 2

Seven different Rangers lit the lamp.

Jensen had two goals and an assist.

Colin Jacobson and Anderson both had a goal and an assist.

Foerster. Cannon Friedrich, Keay and Lovseth also lit the lamp.

Jon Drew made seven saves.

SQUIRT B

HURON – The Rangers went 3-1 in weekend action and are now 6-1-1-0 in league games.

Saturday

 Brookings 3, Huron 1

Warner Carrol, Jasper Pitts and Lorelei Koch scored goals.

Teagan Moad had an assist.

Carrol had 15 saves.

Pitts, Carrol and Allie Jacobson lit the lamp.

Ty Harris was goalie.

Sunday

 Brookings 14, Oahe 2

Moad netted a hat trick.

Khloe Ziegeldorf, Landon Schumacher and Harris each scored twice.

Deacon Trumbo, Blaine Zweber, Koch, Pierson Rohl and Pitts added a goal apiece.

Pitts also logged a playmaker.

Koch, Ziegeldorf, Cole PEtterson, Trumbo, Zweber and Moad contributed assists.

Carrol had four saves.

 Huron 4, Brookings 2

Schumacher and Pitts scored for Brookings.

Carrol stopped eight shots.
