Betty A. Kringen, 86, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Avera Flandreau Hospital in Flandreau. 

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Visitation is 5 – 7 p.m. Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a 7 p.m. scripture service.

Betty Ann Berg Kringen was born Sept. 15, 1930, at Colman to Oscar and Ethel (Shadduck) Berg. 

She attended rural schools, junior high in Brookings and graduated from Colman High School in 1948. 

Betty married Leon Hoss Jan. 14, 1950, and they farmed until his death Oct. 18, 1964. Betty moved into Flandreau in February 1965 and she worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Ahlers Body Shop. In December 1965, she started working as a clerk at the Flandreau Post Office. 

Betty married Eugene Kringen on Sept. 30, 1966, and they lived in Flandreau. In 1984 Betty retired after working at the post office for 19 years. Her husband preceded her in death June 22, 1993. 

Betty was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. 

Betty is survived by three sons, Jim Hoss of Stevensville, Mich., Jerry (Cindy) Hoss of Brookings and David Kringen of Mitchell; three daughters, Joan (Bob) Handberg of Jasper, Minn., Catherine (Bryan Bortnem) Hoss of Rutland and Diane (Jamie) Field of Lakeville, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon and Eugene, daughter Carol, daughter-in-law Pam, son-in-law Jay, sister, Ruby and four brothers, Eugene, Don, Clifford and Howard.
