FORESTBURG – Third-seeded Sanborn Central/Woonsocket jumped out to an 11-point lead after a quarter on the way to a 45-38 Region 4B quarterfinal win over Colman-Egan on Tuesday night.
The Hawks closed to within 17-14 at halftime, but the Blackhawks went on an 18-9 run in the third before Colman-Egan closed with a 15-10 surge in the fourth but came up short.
Megan Poyer scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Blackhawks, who improved to 15-6. Tesa Jensen also had 16 points while Kaylee White contributed eight boards.
Braiden Westley’s 11 points led the Hawks, who finished their season with a 9-11 mark. Madison Voelker chipped in with seven points and five steals as Mackenzie Hemmer grabbed a game-high 10 boards. Josie Mousel added eight rebounds and Olivia Baumberger seven while Elizabeth Moore dished out a pair of assists.
On Thursday, the Blackhawks face Hanson in the 8 p.m. semifinal at the Huron Arena while Ethan and Chester Area square off in the 6:30 p.m. game.
Hanson defeated Dell Rapids St. Mary, 77-57; Ethan trounced Mitchell Christian, 54-9; and Chester Area overcame Howard, 83-78, in two overtimes.
