CLOQUET, Minn. – The Blizzard closed the 2017-18 campaign with a 4-3 Central Division loss to the MN Wilderness on Friday night.
Brookings finished the season with a 23-30-2-5 mark and 53 points to end up sixth in the division standings.
The Wilderness led 1-0 after a period courtesy of a Gino Lucia tally 8 minutes into the game.
Less than a minute into the second period, Luke Dow’s goal pushed the Wilderness’ lead to two goals before the Blizzard answered with two straight to tie the game.
Tyler Hinterser netted the first goal off a Cameron Teamor setup; and then, Vince Marino cashed in on a power-play chance as Carson Kosobud picked up the helper.
But the Wilderness scored two more goals over the final six minutes of the second to take a 4-2 lead into the final frame.
Cam Babiak’s goal 3 minutes into the third off another Kosobud assist pulled Brookings within 4-3, but Ryan Fanti held fast the rest of the way to claim the win in net with 35 saves. Liam Murray finished with 37 saves for the Blizzard as the home team held a 41-38 edge in shots.
