BROOKINGS – Sioux Falls Roosevelt took control in the third quarter during a 68-49 defeat of Brookings in the Bobcats’ regular-season finale Tuesday night at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.
The Rough Riders hit nine of their 15 shot attempts in the big period, turning a 26-22 halftime lead into a 53-35 advantage heading to the fourth.
“Third quarter,” said BHS coach Travis Engebretson. “The last five games. We’ve played pretty well since Aberdeen Central and just in the third quarter we came out and offensively we were a little flat and defensively just blew a couple assignments – gave up three wide-open 3-pointers to good shooters.
“I sound like a broken record.”
For Roosevelt (13-6), Tyler Feldkamp posted a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds while adding four steals and three assists in just 18 1/2 minutes.
Brookings’ Trent Broksieck was solid in his final home game, dropping in 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Nick Schefers, who grabbed five boards, scored 10 points and Tanner Shepardson added nine.
Brookings (2-18), which is currently 17th in seed points, now awaits its postseason fate. The Class AA SoDak 16 is scheduled for March 7.
In the girls’ game in Sioux Falls, Roosevelt (8-12) defeated Brookings 66-39. The Bobcats concluded the season with a 1-19 record.
