BROOKINGS – Both teams won four contested matches, with West Central topping Brookings in a wrestling dual Monday night at the BHS Auxiliary Gymnasium.

The Trojans tallied three decisions – winning by a combined 14-1 – and took advantage of a trio of Bobcat forfeits to grab a 27-0 lead in the dual.

Tyson Brandt and Jaxon Bowes got the home team going.

Brandt pinned Damon Crane in 3:05 at 145 pounds.

Bowes put Robby Edberg on his back in 3:04 in the 152-pound bout.

Luke Rasmussen later won by fall in 3:51 versus Jonathon Schaaf.

James Olson, the ‘Cats’ 220-pounder, made quick work of Logan Brunick at 220, finishing off the bout in 19 seconds.

Gus Miller was a victor via forfeit at 285.

Brookings was open at 113, 120, 126, 170 and 195.

Brandt (5-0) and Rasmussen (4-0) both remained undefeated on the year. They won titles at the Dan Unruh Memorial Invitational over the weekend in Wahpeton, N.D.

Miller, the defending Class A state champion at 220 pounds and an All-State offensive lineman in football, did not compete in the season-opening event up north.

Brookings returns to action with a dual at Watertown on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m.
