RAPID CITY – Brookings wrapped up its six-game road trip with another doubleheader sweep, beating Douglas 15-0 (three innings) and 19-2 (five innings) on Saturday at McKeague Field.

Bobcats sweep Douglas to complete 6-0 road trip

RAPID CITY – Brookings wrapped up its six-game road trip with another doubleheader sweep, beating Douglas 15-0 (three innings) and 19-2 (five innings) on Saturday at McKeague Field.

The Bobcats won their six games in Rapid City by a combined margin of 67-7, also sweeping twinbills from Central on Friday and Sturgis on Thursday.

Brookings (8-1) plays host to Watertown on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Game 1

• Brookings 15, Douglas 0 (3 inn.)

Jacob Schoon pitched a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and also drove in four runs to lead Brookings.

Eight different Bobcats had one hit, while six different players tallied at least one RBI.

The Patriots committed eight errors.

Akren Prodoehl notched an RBI double and Chris Lerdal followed with a run-scoring single to make it 2-0 after an inning.

Schoon’s three-RBI triple highlighted Brookings’ six-run second inning.

The Bobcats tacked on seven runs in the third, including a two-RBI single by Jameson Meyer and an RBI double from Ryan McMacken.

Jacob Devine and Drew Cole, who was Prodoehl’s courtesy runner, both scored three runs.

Douglas’ Andrew Corbine took the loss after giving up five runs – two earned – on three hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Six of the Bobcats’ 15 runs were earned.

Game 2

• Brookings 19, Douglas 2 (5 inn.)

Chris Lerdal racked up seven RBIs, missing the cycle by a single, as the Bobcats easily completed the sweep.

He finished 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Lerdal walked in the first inning and then came through with a two-run double in the second. He hit into a fielder’s in the third, but came back with a two-run inside-the-park homer and a three-run triple in the fifth.

Devine and Tyler Kreutner both scored three times, while Meyer, Cole, Brandon Nelson, McMacken and Parker Beers added a pair of runs apiece.

McMacken totaled two hits; Meyer had two RBIs; and Cole doubled.

In the first, Meyer drove in Devine with a fielder’s choice and Kreutner also scored on the play. Schoon’s RBI single made it 3-0.

Lerdal’s two-run double and a Meyer run-scoring single made it 6-0 through three.

Both teams scored twice in the third, leaving the score at 8-2. Brookings added three runs in the fourth to move ahead 11-2.

In addition to Lerdal’s five-RBI fifth frame, McMacken had a run-scoring hit and later scored on Kreutner’s bases-loaded walk while Nelson scored on a wild pitch.

Patriot starter B. Anderson surrendered eight runs – six earned – on three hits and eight walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Fourteen of the Bobcats’ 19 runs were earned.
