Bobcats sweep OG in home opener, win two in Chamberlain

CHAMBERLAIN/BROOKINGS – The short-handed Bobcats christened their new stadium with a doubleheader sweep of O’Gorman on Friday and then handled a pair of West River foes Saturday.

Brookings (11-1) is host to Sioux Falls Roosevelt for a twinbill at 5 p.m. today.

Saturday

 Brookings 12, Sturgis 2 (6 inn.)

The Bobcats moved ahead 7-1 after an inning and led 11-2 through four.

Charlie Holm was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

Kyle Bauer (single), Kyle Bauer (single), Josh Devine and Payton Theodosopoulos drove in a run apiece.

Henry Hammrich and Jake Ammann also singled. Courtesy runner Jackson Krogman scored three times.

Ammann earned the win on the mound after allowing two runs – one earned – on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game outing.

 Douglas 20, Brookings 0 (3 inn.)

The Bobcats scored 11 times in the opening frame and added an eight-spot in the third.

Jake Ammann led the 13-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs.

Cole Mahlum was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Two of Jackson Krogman’s three RBIs came on a triple.

Mason Bebensee was 1-for-1 with three RBIs and a walk.

Kyle Bauer doubled twice and drove in one run. Henry Hammrich finished 1-for-1 with three walks, an RBI and three runs scored. Lincoln Hardin added a two-bagger.

Josh Devine tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out four and walking one. He went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in a pair.

Friday

 Brookings 7, O’Gorman 6

The Bobcats scored four consecutive runs over the final three innings to pull out the victory.

Cole Mahlum got the seventh-inning rally going with a single. Jackson Krogman hit a line drive and reached on an error. Mason Bebensee also singled to load the bases.

Jake Ammann plated Mahlum with a sacrifice fly, tying the score at 6-6.

Krogman scampered home on an error by the catcher for the winning run.

Henry Hammrich led off the fifth with a single and later scored on an error to cut the deficit to 6-4. Charlie Holm singled with one out in the sixth and scored on a wild pitch with two away to pull Brookings with 6-5.

Holm finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and Mahlum ended up 2-for-4.

Krogman scored three times. Payton Theodosopoulos doubled. Bebensee and Lincoln Hardin added RBIs.

Holm three two hitless innings in relief, walking one, to earn the win. Starter Kyle Bauer surrendered six runs – five runs – on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk over five frames.

OG had five errors and Brookings four. Three of the ‘Cats’ seven runs were earned.

 Brookings 15, O’Gorman 4 (5 inn.)

The Bobcats overcame an early 4-0 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the first and put the game away with a seven-spot in the fourth.

Henry Hammrich doubled, singled and drove in four.

One of Jackson Krogman’s two hits was a three-run double.

Jake Ammann logged a three-run double in the first inning. Lincoln hard recorded a two-bagger.

RBIs also went to Cole Mahlum, Charlie Holm and Payton Theodosopoulos.

Mason Bebensee tossed a complete game, allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
