Bobcats take 12th in Huron

HURON – Tea Area’s Brock Murphy fired a 3-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors and Rapid City Stevens took the team title during the Huron Invitational on Friday at Broadland Creek.

The Raiders shot 307.

Watertown was second at 313.

Sioux Falls O’Gorman (317), Yankton (319) and Brandon Valley (320) rounded out the top five.

Brookings was 12th with a team score of 346.

Murphy made five birdies, four of which came on the back nine as he shot 32.

Yankton’s Michael Frick was runner-up following a 73.

Aberdeen Roncalli’s Lucas Schaefbauer and Stevens’ Payton Phares both shot 74 to place third and fourth, respectively. Stevens’ Ben Daane finished fifth and Watertown’s Nik Sunde ended up sixth after rounds of 75.

Stevens’ John Young, Aberdeen Central’s Ethan Vikander and Harrisburg’s Will Allen each carded 77s to take seventh through ninth, respectively.

Watertown’s Cayden Paulsen placed 10th at 78 and teammate Drew Norberg was 11th with the same score.

Six golfers shot 79.

Drew Cole paced the Bobcats with an 81, putting him in 21st.

Ashton Witte was 37th with an 83.

Alec Rice (87) took 50th and Jesse Roberts (95) was 71st to complete the team tally.

Also for Brookings, Ryan Treiber (101) was 80th and Jordan Svobodny (104) 83rd.

Rounding out the Raiders’ team score, Ryan Nolan shot 81 and finished in 22nd.

The Bobcats play host to Sioux Falls Lincoln in a dual Thursday at 4 p.m. at Brookings Country Club.
