BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray swept the Yankton Grey Sox in a doubleheader Thursday at Mickelson Field, winning 8-6 and 18-3 in four innings.
Brookings (2-2) plays host to Sioux Falls West for a doubleheader Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Game 1
• Brookings 8, Yankton 6
Trailing 6-4, the Bombers Gray put up four runs in the fifth frame to grab the lead for good.
Magnus Nelson drove in three runs. Braden Clifford (double) Davis Engen (RBI), Logan Stotz, Gavin Klinkhammer and Garrett Bothe each tallied two hits.
Bothe pitched five innings to earn the win. Klinkhammer tossed two scoreless innings while notching the save.
Game 2
• Brookings 18, Yankton 3 (4 inn.)
The Bombers Gray overcame an early 3-0 deficit by scoring one run in the first, six in the third and 11 in the fourth.
Brayton Mack was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Gavin Fixsen finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Blake Wallenberg had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Engen (double, three runs), Klinkhammer and Dillon Scheeley each notched a hit and two RBIs. Braden Clifford, who triple, had three runs.
Scheeley gave up three runs – just one earned – in a complete-game performance on the mound.
