Bombers Maroon, Bullets both split

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Maroon beat Brandon Valley 11-6 but fell 14-3 in five innings in Game 2 during a youth baseball doubleheader Wednesday evening at Mickelson Field.

Brookings (11-5) competes in the Cubby’s Sports Bar & Grill 14U Wood Bat Tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Game 1

• Brookings 11, Brandon Valley 6

Trey Svennes doubled and drove in four runs as the Bombers Maroon opened the twinbill with a victory.

Logan Bortnem was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.

Payton Theodosopoulos finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Cole McKeown scored three runs and had an RBI. Joshua Devine also drove in a run.

Devine gave up five runs – one earned – on three hits and three walks in three innings. Jake Ammann was credited with the win after allowing one run on two hits and two walks over the final four frames.

Brandon Valley took control with 11 runs in the third innings.

Kaden Jewett, Talon Richter and Ammann each tallied an RBI for the Bombers Maroon.

Caden Krogman, Zachary Moe, Brock Longville and Devine each singled.

Longville took the loss after pitching two-plus innings.

Bullets split with Brandon Valley

BRANDON – The Bullets beat Brandon Valley 15-7 in six innings in Game 2 after falling 9-1 in five innings in Game 1 during a youth baseball doubleheader Wednesday.

Brookings (6-11) plays in a tournament in Sioux Falls beginning Friday.

Game 1

• Brandon Valley 9, Brookings 1 (5 inn.)

Koby Bartels, Matthew Girard and Cayden Jacobsma each had a hit for the Bullets.

Tanner Huber pitched three innings while taking the loss.

Game 2

• Brookings 15, Brandon Valley 7 (6 inn.)

Jacob Vlaminck tripled, singled and drove in four runs as the Bullets won the nightcap.

Jacobsma finished 2-for-2 with three walks and three RBIs.

Kane Kurtenbach was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.

Koby Bartels scored three times.

Kolby Weinberg gave up three runs on three hits with a strikeout in 2 2/3 innings to pick up the win on the mound.
