Bonnie M. Bentaas - Sioux Falls

Bonnie M. Bentaas, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage.  

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday Aug. 5, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m.  Friday, Aug. 4 at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory.  Online condolences may be sent at www.georgeboom.com

 Bonnie Mae Engen was born July 12, 1934, to Hjalmer and Alice (Grinde) Engen in Clear Lake.  She grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools in Deuel County.    

She graduated from Toronto High School in 1952.  Following graduation, she worked for IDS in Minneapolis for a year and then moved to Sioux Falls.  

 Bonnie was united in marriage to Leo Bentaas on Sept. 5, 1953.  The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, where she worked as a secretary at Dauby’s Sport Shop until 1976.  

In 1977, she became the executive secretary for the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, retiring in 1998.  

Following retirement, Bonnie worked part time at the Culvers Corporation Business Office until she became ill.

 Bonnie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed reading and playing cards, especially bridge and also playing mah-jongg.  

Above all, she cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Leo; sons, Daniel (Ruth) and Dirk (Theresa), all of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Brittany (Korey) Kraayenbrink, Steve (Jamie) Bentaas, Melissa (Scott) Feilmeier and Justin Bentaas; five great-grandchildren, Chandler Bentaas, Bryson and Landon Kraayenbrink; and Keegan and Adalynn Feilmeier; and her siblings, Beverly (Orville) Halstead, Whiting, Iowa, Roger (Arla) Engen, Hendricks, Minn., Robert (Doris) Engen, Hendricks, Minn., Arlene Swenson, Sioux Falls and Barbara (Phil) Ovall, Stillwater, Minn.  

 She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Blaine Engen; her sister, Marlys Anderson; and her brothers-in-law, Dick Anderson and John Swenson.
