BROOKINGS – The Brookings 12U squad posted a 2-0 mark in pool play as they powered past the Mitchell Monarchs, 10-2, and then, hammered Mobridge, 16-3.

Brookings 12U, 11U teams place 2nd in the BWW Showdown

The Brookings 12U squad posted a 2-0 mark in pool play as they powered past the Mitchell Monarchs, 10-2, and then, hammered Mobridge, 16-3.

Brookings then defeated the Yankton Twins, 8-1, in the semifinal, but fell 11-10 to the Sioux Falls Cyclones in the title game.

The 11U team shut down Madison, 14-4, and then shut out the Pierre Schockers, 9-0, in pool-play action.

Brookings downed the Mitchell Rockets, 8-5, in the semifinal, but dropped a 15-6 decision to the Sioux Falls Diamond Ducks in the title match.

12U Championship

• S.F. Cyclones 11, Brookings 10

Brookings opened the game with three straight hits – singles from Parker Winghart and Justin Cofell, to go along with an RBI-single by Carter Wright before Nathan Lease earned an RBI with a sac fly. Trenton Pederson cleared the bases with an RBI-triple as the 12Us led 3-0 early.

The Cyclones countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, but Brookings matched that with five runs of its own in the top of the second when Isaac Dobesh reached on an error and Andrew Bishop took one for the team before Kellan Aure hit a two-run double. Winghart drove in a run with a single; Cofell hit an RBI-triple; and Wright had another RBI-single to make it 8-5.

Sioux Falls scored once in the bottom of the second and then took control with three in the third and two in the fourth to go up 11-8.

Brookings rallied with two in the top of the fifth when Winghart reached on an error and later scored on Wright’s third RBI-single. A hit by Lease moved Wright over and he scored on Max Enevoldsen’s RBI-single to make it 11-10.

The 12Us had a runner in scoring position in the sixth with a chance to tie when Dobesh walked and stole second with two outs, but he ended up being stranded as Brookings placed second.

Zach Struck gave up five runs on four hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning as Winghart tossed 2 1/3 frames – allowing four runs on five hits and a walk with a strikeout. Pederson surrendered two runs on a hit and a walk as he got the final three outs on the mound.

Semifinal

• Brookings 8, Yankton Twins 1

The 12Us scored four runs in the top of the second to take the early lead as Lease and Enevoldsen singled before Pederson followed with a two-run triple and then scored on an error. Rocklyn Dauphinais reached on an error and later scored on a passed ball for the 4-0 lead.

The Twins scored their lone run in the third, but Brookings matched it with a run in the fifth after Pederson walked and eventually scored.

The 12Us tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth after Isaac Schulte took one for the team; Aure singled; and Winghart walked to set the table for Cofell’s two-RBI single after Schulte scored on a wild pitch.

Lease and Cofell combined on the mound.

Pool Play

• Brookings 16, Mobridge 3

After going down in order in the first, the 12Us batted around in the second to score eight runs and take control as Dobesh had the big hit with a two-run double, Wright drove in two runs with a single and Schulte picked up an RBI with a single.

Mobridge scored a run in the bottom of the first and Brookings matched it when Pederson led off with a triple and scored on Dauphinais’ single.

The 12Us added another run in the fourth; Mobridge tacked on two in fifth and then Brookings scored six in the top of the sixth for the final margin as Matt Nordmeyer doubled in a run and Cofell drove in two with another double.

Dobesh gave up a run on two hits and walk with two strikeouts over three innings of work while Nordmeyer allowed two runs on a hit and three walks with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. Dauphinais got the final four outs as he struck out one.

• Brookings 10, Mitchell 2

The 12Us scored three runs in the second as Dobesh drove in two with a single, and then, Brookings added five in the third as Enevoldsen had an RBI single and Pederson drove in a run with a triple.

After Mitchell scored twice in the fourth, the 12Us matched those runs with two in the fifth for the final margin when Aure singled and Cofell hit a home run.

Cofell allowed two hits and struck out two in three innings on the mound while Struck gave up two runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout. Winghart tossed the last two innings and struck out two.

11U Championship

• S.F. Diamond Ducks 15, Brookings 6

Maxwell Engebretson had two base hits, a run scored and an RBI; Austin Clark added a single and run scored; and David Brink added a RBI single.

The Ducks jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but Brookings showed some fight by scoring five runs in the fourth to make the score 10-5, before the Ducks added five more runs in the top of the sixth.

Semifinal

• Brookings 8, Mitchell Rockets 5

Addison Ronning had a big game at the plate with three base hits and two RBIs while Jack Merritt added two doubles and three RBIs.

Breck Hirschoff added a triple and single as David Brink earned the win and Owen Schneider picked up the save.

Pool Play

• Brookings 9, Pierre Schockers 0

Nolan Miles had three hits, which included a double, and scored two runs, while Schneider added a triple and scored two runs.

Jack Merritt added a double as Miles earned the win with three scoreless innings on the mound.

Ronning picked up the save as he pitched three scoreless innings to finish up the shutout.

• Brookings 14, Madison 4

Breck Hirrschoff led the team with three RBIs on three hits, including two triples and three runs scored.

Owen Burns and Ben Moret each added two hits while Schneider chipped in with a double and three RBIs. Clark had a two-run double as Nolan Miles, Will Bauer and Griffen Bartels each scored two runs.

Hirschoff picked up the win after pitching two innings.
