Brookings Colorectal Cancer Awareness Program to host local events

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Colorectal Cancer Awareness Program (BCCAP) is partnering with Billy McMacken and The Brookings Register to raise awareness about colorectal cancer in the Brookings community.

“As a colorectal cancer survivor, I believe spreading awareness about colorectal cancer is essential for prevention,” McMacken said. “I’m happy to support BCCAP and encourage everyone in the community to join the cause.”

From April 4-11, Captain Colon, designed by South Dakota State University theatre students under the direction of Associate Professor Billy Wilburn, is scheduled to make appearances around the Brookings community and on the SDSU campus. Local residents are invited to “Catch the Colon” by taking photos and tagging BCCAP on social media for a chance to win a $25 gift card from Cubby’s Sports Bar and Grill. Use #catchthecolon and follow BCCAP on Instagram @brookingsccap and Facebook @brookingscolorectalcancerawarenessprogram.

Brookings residents are invited to join BCCAP at Cubby’s Sports Bar and Grill from 5 to 9 p.m. April 11 to enjoy a meal, meet Captain Colon and participate in the Color a Colon activity for a chance to win a Cubby’s gift card. Proceeds and donations from the Cubby’s event are going to Brookings Health System for colorectal cancer awareness.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to learn more about prevention and get involved,” McMacken said. “I hope to see everyone there.”
