BROOKINGS – The Bobcats used Tuesday’s outstanding weather to not only set a few automatic and provisional qualifying marks for the Class AA State Track and Field Meet at the end of May, they improved on a few of those marks.

BROOKINGS – The Bobcats used Tuesday’s outstanding weather to not only set a few automatic and provisional qualifying marks for the Class AA State Track and Field Meet at the end of May, they improved on a few of those marks.

Girls

Ellie Abraham not only improved her automatic qualifying time in the 800-meter run, the freshman’s winning time of 2 minutes, 17.3 seconds earned her the top time in the state.

Madison Gray’s second-place time of 26.33 seconds in the 200 gave her the 14th-best automatic time while Sydney Maher’s winning time of 12.63 in the 100 bumped her from a 15th-place tie in the provisional standings into a tie for 10th.

Gray’s winning time of 58.85 seconds in the 400 also bumped her from sixth to fifth in the automatic qualifying standings.

The ‘Cats took three of the four top spots in the 100-meter hurdles as Kailee Bartels won in 15.72 seconds; Ellie Hegdahl finished second in 16.14 – which improved her provisional qualifying time by 2/10 of a second; and Grace Eggebrecht placed fourth in 16.52. Bartels has already met the automatic mark and Eggebrecht has already surpassed the provisional time.

Bartels also won the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 1 inch, while teammates Kelsey Phelps (30-10 1/2) and Hannah Siemonsma (29-11 3/4) placed second and fourth, respectively.

Amanda Schulte’s put of 36-4 in the shot was not only good for second, it also met the provisional standard.

Other top-eight finishes for the Bobcats included Emily Rystrom and Miranda Ysbrand placing fifth and seventh in the 100 in respective times of 13.05 and 13.15.

Eggebrecht added a sixth-place time of 27.27 in the 200; Mariah McKibben (1:08.6) and Brooke Wika (1:08.8) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400; while Bastienne Baggett (2:43.62) and Alexis McGuire (2:46.32) finished third and fourth in the 800.

Amanda Kees placed second in the 300 hurdles in 50.08; Hegdahl was third in 50.24; Abby Mathiason finished in 50.97 for fourth; and Ainsley Powers ran a 5:41.65 in the 1,600 for fourth place.

Kylie Tucker cleared 4-7 for second in the high jump; Emma Hardin went 14-7 for second in the long jump, followed by Siemonsma (14-5 3/4) in fourth and Phelps in fifth (14-3).

Ashley Anderson threw the discus 107-1 for second; followed by Schulte (103-3) in third and Ally Schleicher (91-8) in seventh.

Ysbrand and Regan Weisbeck tied for sixth in the pole vault after clearing 7-3 and Schleicher went 31-4 1/2 for sixth in the shot.

The ‘Cats won two relays – the 4x100 in 50.83 seconds and the 4x400 in 4:05.08 – and finished second in the 4x200 (1:49.52) and 4x800 (10:29.34).

Boys

Eddie Miller led the charge by winning the discus with an automatic-qualifying throw of 142-8 in the discus while Devin Coughlin went 41-11 1/4 to win the triple jump and push his provisional spot to the fifth-best distance in the state.

Miller also won the shot with a put of 46-3 1/2 – just a 1/2 inch off the provisional mark – as only 12 athletes have met either the qualifying mark or provisional mark.

Seth Swedlund, who has already qualified for the state meet, matched his season best with a winning mark of 6-1 in the high jump; while Greg Opdahl led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 800 and Chuck Wang led a 1-2 sweep in the 1,600.

In the 800, Opdahl won in 2:05.32; Reece Weber placed second in 2:05.51; Oscar Kavanagh finished third in 2:07.31; and Isaac Conrad was fourth in 2:08.37.

In the 1,600, Wang won in 4:54.36; Nick Rudnik was second in 5:01.65; and Casey Pedersen (5:22.05) out-kicked Marshall Sterns (5:24.88) for eighth.

Matteo Cabra finished in 58.31 seconds for sixth in the 400 as Hayden Person clocked a 50.55 for seventh in the 300 hurdles.

Isaac von Fischer placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18-11 3/4 – just ahead of Jordan Cournoyer’s fourth-place mark of 18-7 – as Jordan Crawford finished eighth at 18-0 3/4. Von Fischer also added a fifth-place leap of 5-5 in the high jump.

Dillon Jensen placed third in the discus with a throw of 130-7, to go along with a fifth-place put of 42-8 in the shot, while Tucker Christie’s put of 36-5 1/2 was good for seventh.

The Bobcat boys placed second in the 4x400 relay in 3:39.79; third in the 4x200 in 1:38.74; and fourth in the 4x100 in 46.97.
