HARRISBURG – The Tigers used a 16-11 third-quarter advantage to pull away to a 61-55 Eastern South Dakota Conference win over Brookings on Tuesday night.
After playing to a 19-19 tie after a quarter, Harrisburg went up 32-31 at halftime before extending its lead to 48-42 through three as the teams played evenly in the final frame with 13 points apiece.
The Tigers extended their lead to nine points – 55-46 – following a 3-pointer by Isaac Brower but the ‘Cats battled back, getting as close as four points at 59-55 after an Eric Sell free throw.
Brower provided for the final margin with a late basket.
Drew Cole led Brookings, 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the ESD, with 16 points and nine rebounds, to go along with four blocks and two steals. Trevor Woodall chipped in with 12 points, eight boards and a pair of assists while Trent Broksieck contributed 10 points and two dimes.
Nick Hoyt’s 18 points, three assists and two steals led the Tigers, who improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Bobcats play host to Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Saturday. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. at Bob Jostad.
