ABERDEEN – Aberdeen Central outscored the Bobcats in every quarter except the fourth, and by then, it was too late as Brookings came up short to lose, 71-62, in an Eastern South Dakota Conference matchup on Tuesday at Golden Eagles Arena.
The Eagles led 20-17 after 8 minutes; 42-34 at halftime; and then, 58-46 through three before Brookings put together a 16-13 run in the fourth to cut the final deficit to single digits.
The loss dropped the Bobcats to 6-14 on the season and sets up a SoDak 16 showdown at Brandon Valley on Saturday. Game time is to be determined.
Aberdeen Central, 3-14, travels to Sioux Falls on Saturday to face O’Gorman.
Jay Wilber had the hot hand for the ‘Cats as the senior netted a game-high 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor, including a 6-for-8 performance from beyond the arc. Trevor Woodall added 15 points and four assists while Drew Cole posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Andrew Bergan also posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards for the Golden Eagles. Reece Burckhard contributed 16 points, seven rebounds, six blocks and a pair of steals as Alex Harms finished with 14 markers and three takeaways.
