Brookings has much to offer football fans

The Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan must be very worried about the Dakota Dome losing the High School Football Championships after they are played at Dkyhouse Stadium this week.  The editorial column from the Daily Press & Dakotan Football playoffs: Home away from the dome? is a reminder that Brookings is highly regarded, and I guess, feared in some cases.

Trying to make the case that the Dakota Dome was the main of two reasons that the Football Championships were started in South Dakota is offensive and delusional. The playoffs started because of a fairness issue. All other high school sports had championships and a lawsuit was filed to argue the point and force the Activity Association to act. If the Dome was not available, the lawsuit would have forced playoffs to proceed anyway.

What was the point of this column? I’ll contend that after the event is held in Brookings there is a fear there will be conversations regarding future locations for the championships. Brookings does a great job attracting and hosting events. ESPN’s GameDay chose to come to Brookings, and it was a huge success. Brookings has a lot to offer and great people to make sure fans enjoy their visit. Thank you to all the organizations and people that make Brookings shine.
