SIOUX FALLS — The top three teams from the Statewide JA Titan competition hosted by Junior Achievement of South Dakota will have the chance to compete in the National Competition to be held virtually this week on Wednesday and Thursday. The JA Titan competition allowed students to be CEOs of a cellphone company. The goal was to see who could sell the most cellphones in “16 quarters.”

Representing schools across the eastern side of the state, 19 teams competed in the virtual South Dakota event on April 27. Prior to the competition, the students completed the JA Titan program where students had an opportunity to learn about price, production, R&D, corporate social responsibility, etc.

The winning teams:

• First place: Yankton High School — Ian Bishop, Wyatt Holmstrom,

• Second place: Yankton High School — Wilson Lotz, Luke Bernatow and Adianis Reyes- Rodriguez

• Third place: Brookings High School — Mackenzie Anderson

Junior Achievement provides hands-on programming in grades K-12 that connects what students are learning in the classroom to the real world. Volunteers from the community instruct students on personal and business principles that are relevant to their lives and are the foundation of financial stability and work readiness.
