Bullets, Pheasants advance

MITCHELL – The Renner Bullets dropped Platte 9-5 and Winner/Colome beat Garretson 5-2 in the second round the Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament on Monday at Cadwell Park.

The Bullets and Pheasants play in the quarterfinals Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Today, the Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks take on Redfield at 5:30 p.m. and Canova faces Dell Rapids PBR at 7:30 p.m. in second-round action.

Dallas Schneiderman threw eight innings and the Bullets racked up 17 hits on offense to top the Killer Tomatoes.

Schneiderman allowed five runs – two earned – on five hits with 14 strikeouts and four walks. Michael Clapp punched out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth.

Leadoff hitter Grant Hieb finished 4-for-6. Brandon Lane was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Kole Zimmerman had a three-run double among his two hits.

Brian McGuire, Clapp and Justin Reilly added a pair of singles apiece.

Platte’s Michael Buitenbos gave up eight runs – three earned – on 15 hits with two Ks and two BB. The Killer Tomatoes commited six errors as just three of Renner’s runs were earned.

Derek Graesser tossed a six-hitter, surrendering two runs – one earned – with five strikeouts and two walks.

Catcher Chandler Bakley finished 3-for-4. He opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first.

It was 3-0 after an inning. The Bluejays pulled within 3-2 at the end of four, before the Pheasants put up single runs in the fifth and sixth frames.

Dillon Lambley added two hits and an RBI in the win.

Garretson’s Austin VanHove was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Dustin Steckler gave up five runs on 11 hits with seven punchouts and three free passes.
