Butch Salmonson, 74, of Estelline, SD, passed away on Oct. 6, 2021, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.Monday Oct. 11, 2021, at the Estelline Legion Hall. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Butch was born Aug. 26, 1947, to Einar and Mary (Anderson) Salmonson in Estelline, South Dakota. He attended country school and graduated from Estelline High School in 1965. He joined the South Dakota National Guard after completing school, farmed and raised cattle until 1992, and worked for Nitteberg Construction until retiring in 2019.
He married Linda Ostroot on Nov.12, 1983, and they lived on the family farm until his passing. Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other activities in his younger years. He was also a great dancer and the local ladies always lined up to waltz with Butch.
He spent his retirement working in the yard and driving around visiting friends in his John Deer Gator.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Estelline; daughter, Stephanie (Matt) Bebensee of Bruce; two grandchildren, Mason and Sydney Bebensee, as well as nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents’ in-law, one sister, Shirley (Dennis) Eisnach and a brother Stanley Salmonson.
