MITCHELL – The ‘Chutes dropped a pair of Junior Legion baseball games Tuesday at Cadwell Park, falling 6-3 to the Rapid City Post 320 Shooters and 10-5 to host Post 18.

'Chutes go 0-2 in Mitchell

MITCHELL – The ‘Chutes dropped a pair of Junior Legion baseball games Tuesday at Cadwell Park, falling 6-3 to the Rapid City Post 320 Shooters and 10-5 to host Post 18.

Brookings (8-12) plays a doubleheader at Yankton on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Post 18 rallied from a 5-0 deficit with two runs in both the second and third innings, four in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

J.J. Armour finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Lincoln Erickson added three RBIs and Jens Enga two. Isaac Rew scored three times.

Masen Thompson threw five scoreless innings in relief, giving up three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Brookings’ Henry Hammerich walked with one out in the first, and Jamison Honkomp and Caden Wright drew free passes with two away. Hammerich sprinted home on a wild pitch to open the scoring.

The ‘Chutes put up four runs in the second.

Nick Schefers and Max Struck drew walks to get it going. Following a double play, Hammerich drew a base on balls and Jackson Krogman singled to load the bases.

Honkomp walked to force in Schefers. Hammerich scored on a wild pitch.

Wright’s two-run single made it 5-0. He finished 2-for-3.

Jacobsma took the loss in relief, giving up four runs – two earned – on three hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts.

Jared Von Wald threw five solid innings and the Shooters scored three runs in both the first and third frames to build a 6-0 lead in the win over the ‘Chutes.

Von Wald gave up one run on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Mitch Sand went 2-for-4, Dalton Klosterman had two RBIs and Riley Larson doubled.

Brookings’ Nick Schefers led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and Max Struck was hit by a pitch. Both players advanced on Henry Hammerich’s sacrifice, before Max Kjelden drew a walk to load the bases. Cayden Jacobsma drove in Schefers with a sacrifice fly to get the ‘Chutes on the board.

Jamison Honkomp, Caden Wright and Kyle Bauer walked to open the sixth. Honkomp scampered home on a wild pitch with one out and Wright scored on Struck’s groundout to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Schefers took the loss after giving up six runs – four earned – on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Jacobsma threw four scoreless innings, giving up just two hits with a strikeout and a walk.
