'Chutes sweep Lynx to extend winning streak

BROOKINGS – The ‘Chutes swept Brandon Valley in a Junior Legion doubleheader Tuesday, winning 2-1 and 9-5 at Bob Shelden Field.

Post 74 (11-6), which has won seven in a row, hosts Yankton in a twinbill today at 5 p.m.

Game 1

 Brookings 2, Brandon Valley 1

The ‘Chutes rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Justin Cofell and Breck Hirrschoff singled and advanced on a groundout.

Cofell tied it up, scampering home on a wild pitch.

Hirrschoff scored on Nolan Miles’ groundout to put Post 74 ahead.

Hirrschoff ended the game 2-for-2 with a walk. Trenton Pederson had the team’s other hit.

Parker Winghart tossed three scoreless innings to pick up the victory, surrendering four hits with a trio of strikeouts. Starter Nathan Lease allowed one run – unearned – on five hits with a strikeout over the first four frames.

The Lynx took advantage of two errors in the fourth to score their lone run.

Nick Lohr was 3-for-4 with a double. Cole Frisbie (double, run) and Ty Peyton both had two hits

Daniel Buteyn allowed two runs on four hits and five walks with four strikeouts in a complete-game performance.

The ‘Chutes scored four runs in each of the first two innings to grab an 8-3 advantage.

Justin Cofell ended up 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Andrew Bishop (double) and Nathan Lease both logged a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Nolan Miles singled and drove in a pair. Zach Struck and Breck Hirrschoff added an RBI apiece. Parker Winghart doubled.

Just one of the Lynx’s five runs was earned.

Cofell earned the win on the mound, surrendering four runs – one earned – on four hits with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Struck gave up one run – unearned – on six hits with a K over the next 2 1/3. Owen Schneider tossed a perfect seventh with a pair of punchouts.

BV’s Jack Riley finished 3-for-3 with an RBI. Tayton Stroh was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
