Colleen Carlson, 84, of Arlington, died Friday Oct. 12, 2018, at Edgewood Vista in Brookings. 

Funeral services are at 10:30 am on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in the Arlington City Cemetery.  Visitation is from 5-7- p.m. on Tuesday at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Wednesday.

Colleen Ann Doescher was born March 18, 1934, the daughter of Raymond and Anne (Sorenson) Doescher.  She grew up on the Doescher family farm outside of Arlington, attended rural schools and graduated from Arlington High School.  

On Dec. 5, 1952, she married William “Bill” Carlson.  After a year in Brookings they moved to the Carlson family farm south of Lake Poinsett. They had five children, Ron, Steve, Cathy, Bill and Karen.  In addition to caring for her family, Colleen worked on the farm and enjoyed many jobs outside the home.

Colleen was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington.  She was a member of the Coffee Club, a group of farm wives who supported and encouraged each other by meeting monthly for over 40 years.  In her later

years, Colleen loved to travel on the bus trips with friends. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society.  She loved playing cards and visiting with friends.

After leaving the farm, Colleen lived in Badger, Arlington and the Edgewood Vista in Brookings where she made her final home.

Those who knew Colleen, also known as Took, will always remember her gentle spirit, her positive attitude, her fun-loving nature and her generous hospitality to others.

Colleen is survived by her children, Ron Carlson (Linda Adams) of Garden City, Kansas Steve (Lynn) Carlson of Arlington, Cathy Stanley (Dean Kimpling) of Arlington, Bill (Sharon) Carlson of Arlington and Karen (Kim) Plymate of Piedmont; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husband, Bill; a grandson, Richard Carlson and a granddaughter, Shannon Kirsch; her two sisters, Bonnie Madsen and Bettie Jensen and a brother, Tim Doescher.
