VOLGA – Sioux Valley closed the regular season with a 25-15, 25-6, 25-10 sweep of Garretson during Big East Conference volleyball action Monday night.

“It’s always scary to have a match on a Monday; no practice yesterday and then you come out today and you wonder what you’re going to look like,” said Cossack coach Jill Vincent. “But for the most part it was pretty decent.”

Lynsey Stevens totaled 14 kills, three service aces, one block and eight digs.

Nikole Ziegler had 14 kills, two aces, a block and 12 digs.

Miakken Vincent contributed seven kills, an ace, a block and six digs. Bethany Rennich added four kills and six digs.

For the Blue Dragons (0-22, 0-8), Madisen Northrup, who came up with six digs, and Beth Schmidt both had three kills. Emily Schleuter had 18 digs, and Peyton Hove totaled 10 set assists and an ace.

The Cossacks improved to 23-4 after winning for the 19th time in 20 matches, and finished fourth in the BEC standings with a 5-3 mark. Sioux Valley had its 18-match win streak snapped in a five-set loss to Chester Area the last time out on Tuesday.

Sioux Valley earned a top-two seed in Region 2A and will receive a first-round bye. The Cossacks play host to Tuesday’s Hamlin/Flandreau Indian School winner in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 2.

“We need to turn up our communication skills so that we can be able to trust that our teammates are behind us playing the ball, and then we all know what they’re going to do,” added Vincent. “We’re second-guessing ourselves right now because we’re not really sure what’s going to happen. We play pretty well in silent mode, but we need to turn up the communication so then we can get one step ahead and we can anticipate more.
