Cubs ground Flying Squirrels, 13-7

BROOKINGS – The Cubs put up eight runs in the fourth inning and beat the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 13-7 in a Sioux Empire League amateur baseball game Tuesday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings held a 16-7 advantage in hits.

Jeff Fish went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Kyle Krogman was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Seth Fraser added two hits and a pair of RBIs. JaColby Anderson singled twice and drove in a run. Sam McMacken added two RBIs.

Marcus Heemstra gave up four runs – two earned – on three hits and five walks with seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Sam Froehlich was credited with the save after allowing three runs – all in the ninth – on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks over the final 3 2/3.

The Flying Squirrels’ Austin Ridl and Zach Cole both had two hits and an RBI. Reece Mimmack doubled.

Brookings (14-5, 4-3) plays host to the Castlewood Ravens tonight at 7:30.
