VOLGA – Early foul trouble helped put the Sioux Valley into a deep halftime deficit against Clark/Willow Lake on Saturday night that the Cossacks couldn’t overcome in the second half.

The Cyclones scored 29 second-quarter points to take a 43-22 halftime lead en route to a 73-58 Lake Central Conference win over Sioux Valley in both teams’ season opener.

The Cossacks rallied in the third by outscoring CWL, 20-9, to get within 52-42, but the visitors pulled away in the fourth quarter for the 15-point win.

Sioux Valley was whistled for 33 fouls as the Cyclones cashed in at the foul line with a 31-of-45 performance.

Trevor Olson led the Cossacks with 24 points, while Max Nielson added 13 points and five assists as Trevor Hanson contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jacob Prouty finished with 29 points for CWL, 1-0 and 1-0 LCC. Ntai Stevens posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while Micah Burke chipped in with 18 points.

Sioux Valley travels to Baltic on Thursday.
