SIOUX FALLS – Jessie Daw and Tom Krueger, both of Sioux Falls, will be inducted into the South Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame on Sunday.
The induction ceremony is at noon at the McKennan Park tennis complex during the Asfora South Dakota Adult Open. McKennan Park has been the host site for induction ceremonies since the HOF’s initial year in 1991. A marker recognizing all inductees is featured near the tennis courts.
Daw is being recognized in three categories: as a player, coach and contributor. She was a state singles champion for Sioux Falls Lincoln High School, played Big Ten Conference tennis at Illinois, coached college tennis and has served on many tennis boards and committees both regionally and nationally over the years.
Krueger, a Sioux Falls Washington High School and Augustana College graduate, is an accomplished player who has really made his mark while serving as boys’ and girls’ coach at Lincoln High School. His teams have a combined twelve state championships, with an overall dual meet record of 541-139 since he started there in 1995.
The prestigious South Dakota Tennis Achievement Award goes to Ruth Rehn, now of Greeley, Colo. A Lyons native and South Dakota State graduate, Ruth spent more than 30 years as a top administrator with the South Dakota High School Activities Association. She spurred the growth of equal opportunities for girls’ athletics in South Dakota, and specifically the sport of tennis on the girls’ side really took off under her watch.
The induction ceremony is preceded with a 10:30 a.m. brunch and reception at McKennan Park, hosted by longtime sponsors Dave and Rick Thompson of Spezia Restaurant.
All tennis enthusiasts are invited to attend.
Championships for the 2018 South Dakota Asfora Open follow the induction ceremony.
