BROOKINGS – Andriy Denyskin netted a hat trick as the Brookings Blizzard dropped the rival Aberdeen Wings 6-3 in an NAHL Central Division game Friday night at Larson Ice Center.
The Blizzard opened up a 2-0 lead after a period on goals from Vince Marino and Denyskin. Oliver Turan assisted on the first and Cameron Teamor on the second.
The Wings pulled even in the second as Keenan Spillum lit the lamp on an assist from Adam Pttters and John Sladic added a power-play goal assisted by Nathan Burke in a 1 1/2 minute span.
Denyskin’s second goal, which came on a power play, gave the lead back to the Blizzard. Marino and Jimmy Elser were credited with assists. Aberdeen tied the score for the final time – 3-3 – as Ricky Carballo found the back of the net with 3:36 left in the second.
Denyskin answered with the gamewinner soon thereafter to complete the hat trick. Brendan Aird assisted.
Tyler Hinterser gave the Blizzard some breathing room with 6:56 to go in the game, recording a short-handed tally. Teamor picked up his second assist of the night on the play.
Josh Boyer’s short-handed empty-netter provided for the final margin with 17 seconds showing on the clock.
Zach Borgiel made 30 saves to earn the win in goal. Aberdeen’s Daniel Pavlicko stopped 32 shots and allowed five goals.
The teams combined for 30 penalty minutes on 15 infractions.
