GARRETSON – Deubrook Area won the final event of the day – the 4x400-meter relay – to take the girls’ team title at the Jesse James Invitational on Saturday, totaling 136 points to edge Chester Area (134). Sioux Falls Christian was third at 111.

Dolphin girls win Jesse James title

GARRETSON – Deubrook Area won the final event of the day – the 4x400-meter relay – to take the girls’ team title at the Jesse James Invitational on Saturday, totaling 136 points to edge Chester Area (134). Sioux Falls Christian was third at 111.

Josie Olsen, Shaylee DeBeer, Ashley Vandermeer and Cortney Bauman teamed to win the 4x400 in 4 minutes, 19.34 seconds.

The same quartet – DeBeer, Vandermeer, Olsen and Bauman – were tops in the 4x800 in 10:26.75.

Olsen was the medalist in the 1,600-meter run with a 5:48.34 clocking.

Vandermeer won the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 3 1/2 inches and took second in the 200 in 27.54 seconds.

Sarah Urevig, Andrea Vandermeer, Bauman and DeBeer finished first in the medley relay in 4:33.17.

Andrea Vandermeer was runner-up in the 3,200 with a time of 12:33.32 as DeBeer took second in the triple jump at 33-9.

Claire Olsen was second in the shot put (31-11 1/4) and sixth in the discus (80-9 1/2).

Baylee Holmlund added a second-place showing in the 300-meter hurdles (59.99).

The Dolphins finished second in the 4x200 in 2:03.32 and fifth in the 4x100 with a 58.48 clocking.

Urevig was third in the high jump (4-1) and Trixie Jo Schlechter matched that finish in the long jump (13-11 1/4) as Bauman ended up fourth in the triple jump (31-6 1/2).

Emma Vandermeer placed fifth in both the long jump (13-0) and triple jump (29-10), while adding an eighth-place finish in the 400 (1:14.36).

Carley Landmark was sixth in the 400 in 1:11.59.

Abbie Hulsebus ended up seventh in both the 400 (1:12.43) and 800 (2:56.8) as Macyn Peterson placed seventh in the discus (79-5).

On the boys’ side, the Chargers won with 172 team points. The Flyers (143) were second and the host Blue Dragons (106) took third. The Dolphins (68) ended up sixth.

Jacob Johnson paced Deubrook with a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles in 46.3 seconds.

Aczel Garcia took third in the 800 with a 2:16.23 clocking.
