ESTELLINE/COLMAN – Three of the top four seeds moved on after first-round matchups in Monday’s Dakota Valley Conference Tournament as Deubrook Area, Dell Rapids St. Mary, Colman-Egan and Elkton-Lake Benton advanced to Thursday’s semifinals.

Dolphins, Cardinals, Hawks and Lady Elks pick up wins

ESTELLINE/COLMAN – Three of the top four seeds moved on after first-round matchups in Monday’s Dakota Valley Conference Tournament as Deubrook Area, Dell Rapids St. Mary, Colman-Egan and Elkton-Lake Benton advanced to Thursday’s semifinals.

The top-seeded Dolphins didn’t have any problems with the host Lady Redmen and second-seeded Colman-Egan rolled over Arlington in the other first-round matchups to set up Thursday’s semifinal showdowns.

Deubrook Area faces St. Mary in Estelline while the hometown Hawks take on the Lady Elks on their home court in the DVC semis at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Raiders meet the Lady Redmen on their home floor and the Arlington Cardinals match up the Divers in Colman at 6 p.m.

Deubrook Area 51, Estelline 12

A 20-2 run in the second quarter helped lift the Dolphins over Estelline.

Cortney Bauman stayed hot with a 20-point effort as Shaylee DeBeer contributed 12 points and four rebounds for Deubrook Area, 10-1 on the season.

Kaitlyn Steffensen’s five points and four rebounds led Estelline, which dropped to 2-7 overall.

Dell Rapids St. Mary 39, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 30

The Cardinals used an 18-5 run over the second quarter and then held on for the nine-point win over ORR, which dropped to 4-7.

Abby Stratton’s 12 points led the Lady Raiders as Kennedi Mullaney (11), Lexi Klein (8) and Ella Heinz (8) helped DRSM improve to 5-7 on the season.

Colman-Egan 40, Arlington 18

Jessica Wittrock scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed four steals to help lead the Hawks past Arlington.

Burgin Groos pulled down 13 rebounds and added four points, three assists and three takeaways as Colman-Egan improved to 8-4 on the season.

Madasyn Gilbert had five points and six rebounds to lead the Cardinals, who dropped to 1-9 overall.

Elkton-Lake Benton 58, Lake Preston 52

The Lady Elks built an 18-6 lead after the first eight minutes and still led 27-25 at halftime before falling behind, 40-39, through three quarters before ELB put together a 19-12 run in the final frame to pull out the win.

Rachel Hegerfeld posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead ELB, which evened its record at 5-5. Callie Otkin dropped three 3-pointers on the way to 21 points while Samantha Schindler chipped in with nine points and six steals.

Ashlyn DeKnikker dropped a game-high 30 points for the Divers while Karley DeKnikker contributed 13 markers as Lake Preston dropped to 3-7.
